Frozen rats are similar to mice, but have a higher protein and fat content which translates to a higher energy content. Rats come in an extremely diverse size range and can feed anything from sand boas and young monitors all the way up to adult female boa constrictors. When choosing the appropriate sized rat for your snake, the rat should be equal to or slightly larger than the thickest girth of your snake. Never gauge the size of the meal by the size of the snake's head. For lizards, the appropriate sized rodent will be equal to or smaller than the size of the mouth. Frozen rats are an ideal food as a staple diet. Remember that all reptiles will eat their rodents whole!
